Love Moon Rich Gold, 91x100cm, mixed media on canvas, 2023 ©adagp
The aesthetics of Korean tradition are reflected in the Joseon Dynasty's 18th-century work ‘White Porcelain Jar with Openwork Peony and Scroll Design in Underglaze Cobalt Blue’, the ‘double white porcelain projection’ sold at Christie's auction, Joseon's moon jar, and other national treasures, such as Joseon Dynasty court paintings health, wealth, and success, such as peonies, camellias, and lotus flowers. With the following traditional works in mind, my artworks were done with a modern aesthetic mixed in.The working method is as follows: scoop out the gel stone with a knife, place it on the icon, and model it in a relief form with a Korean painting fine brush. The colouring was done using a korean colour application technique and drawing technique. For formation, Swarovski and mother-of-pearl powder was used as a focal point. In my work, I wanted to capture the healing aspect of nature and the utopian feeling of being in heaven by capturing images of plants such as lotus, peony, and camellia in white porcelain.Through coloured paintings and traditional ceramics handed down from tradition, it connects the past and present and expresses the energising feeling overcoming difficulties rising up through the sentimental melody of Korean beauty. An appropriate balance of abstractness and concreteness in colour and expression was pursued, and the shape of the white porcelain, which resembles a full moon, represents the beautiful heart of a person and the generosity of embracing the human mind and emotions. Through the integration of modern and traditional beauty in white porcelain works, I hope to spread a message of hope and happiness and positive energy to all.
The Garden of Prosperity-Mind Blooming 8 37.9x45.5cm (8F), mixed media on canvas, 2023 ©adagp
I work "The gaden of prosperity series" with the motive of coexistence between human being and nature including love for mankind. The bird wearing gold crown in Shilla Dynasty of Korea is not only the image of human but also mother nature. Peony blossom and camellia flower represent the wealth, prosperity and happiness. I was inspired by white porcelain openwork in Chosun Dynasty of Korea and modern ceramics. I like matiere. So I piled up and painted Gelstone with knife and brush. Also, I painted with brush-touch like impressionist and used traditional materials including the other craft materials. My work contains abstraction and conception. Colorful bars such like light spectrum transiting prism are reflected by Korea traditional Hanbok, color field abstract of Mondrian and Korea traditional colors. I wish you will have a happy mind and mind bloomingness through my work.\ I recall the days when I was captivated by the process of painting on ceramic architectural tiles printed on a plaster press in semi-substituted form. I also recall my fascination for ceramics, particularly the porcelain with a double-toothed pattern . Beyond ceramic architectural tiles, human architecture is both in a community’s self-interest and a place to live. The colourful rainbow apartments in Ukraine that I saw on the Internet looked beautiful and peaceful in contrast to the devastation of war. I wanted to express these objects that I enjoy and feel with Korean sentiments. I put the white porcelain openwork patterns, which are symbols of space and time, into the divided space and play with colouring to find my own imaginary colours such as landscapes, everyday materials, and masterpieces. These are colour rods, like the colour dong rings my mother gave me when I got married, and the colour play of the divided space. By harmoniously using Eastern and Western materials such as mother-of-pearl, gold leaf, gold powder, and stoneware, I embark on another journey of my own, as if sewing together pieces of humanity, nature, past and present, and memory with a needle and thread. Like the pure white Joseon porcelain, I embroider with needle and thread. The process of scooping up sand acrylic with a knife and painting it layer by layer is a process of immersion and an act of soul cleansing. The process of lifting the mother-of-pearl pieces with tweezers one by one is also an act of connecting the pieces of my life. I layer my favourite floral patterns to create a mixture of figurative and non-figurative colours that transcend time and space. Camellia and peony flowers, symbols of wealth and prosperity, are pleasant lyrical times for me. I pray that, as my heart blossoms, the colours and layers of the flowers will spread out like a spectrum of pleasant energy. -
